Participants in our psychotherapy training will be supported to work through a reflective exercise in a safe, structured environment, with a focus on self-care.
Working through carefully selected ethical dilemmas, our one-hour free Skill Snapshot will enhance your professional edge in psychotherapy training.
There's a lot to think about when considering a private practice. Our Skill Snapshot will encourage reflexivity about your practice, consider the crucial concepts of competence and capacity, and give you lots of info you never knew you needed to know.
Supervision is designed to help us grow - and yet it can provoke shame, feelings of anxiety and exposure and leave us unsure what to bring, and how to ask for what we need.
We invite you to slow down and rethink supervision, not as a performance, but as a relational, protective and developmental space that supports you as a therapist.
Assessment and Treatment Planning is not a one-off diagnosis, but an ongoing relational process.
Join us to find out more.
Skills Snapshots are our one-hour webinars on topics of interest for counsellors and psychotherapists, whether trainee, newly-qualified or experienced practitioners. These sessions are part of our commitment to high-quality psychotherapy training and ongoing development. CPD Certificates will be provided. In Autumn/Winter 2025/6, we are offering Skill Snapshots that focus on Reflective Practice, Ethical Practice, Setting up in Private Practice, Using Supervision Effectively, Assessment and Treatment Planning. We aim to re-run all of these later in 2026.
Online via Zoom.

Training in psychotherapy is more than just gaining qualifications - it's a relational journey of growth, discovery, and transformation. Our psychotherapy training programmes at PHYSIS bring together psychodynamic, humanistic, relational, and body-based approaches, offering a rich framework that honours the complexity of human experience.
Learning with PHYSIS means engaging in thoughtful study while being supported to grow creatively, reflectively, and authentically as a therapist - always in relationship with others. If you have questions or wish to learn more, feel free to contact us.
You'll be part of a warm and supportive community of trainers and fellow learners who value curiosity, compassion, and integrity. At PHYSIS, you don't just train - you belong, and we all flourish.

After about 20 years working in PR and communications, I began a long process of change. It started when I joined Samaritans as a listening volunteer and began a BSc in Psychology. Following this, I pursued psychotherapy training, completing an MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy and a Diploma in Supervision. This journey has culminated in my current role as an integrative psychotherapist and supervisor in private practice.
I am lucky. I truly love my work and feel privileged that people share their vulnerabilities with me as they heal emotional and psychological wounds through psychotherapy.
I work from a warm and welcoming space in my garden. My garden room is surrounded by mature trees. One of the things I love about being there is listening to the breeze, and even the wind, blowing through the leaves. The sound is soothing. I slow down when I hear it and often find myself looking up to see the tops of the trees.
Giving something back has always been important to me. I have volunteered in various roles, including on the door of The Gate Theatre in Notting Hill and making ‘Complan Cocktails’ for oncology patients. I left Samaritans after about six years.
I am a member of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP). If you would like to know more or wish to contact us, feel free to reach out. cathy@cathyconnan.com

My integrative approach as a practitioner and clinical supervisor is rooted in a relational framework, drawing on object relations, attachment theory, self-psychology, child development, and psychodynamic thinking. These perspectives help me understand how early relational experiences and unconscious processes shape clients’ present struggles, while humanistic values guide me in fostering authenticity, empathy, and the client’s innate capacity for growth.
I also integrate body psychotherapy, attending to somatic processes as expressions of memory, emotion, and meaning. Creativity is central to my practice: I use metaphor, imagery, and inner child work, informed by my own interests in literature, art, music, spirituality, and the natural world. This combination allows me to work flexibly and responsively with each client, supporting depth, embodiment, and integration.
As part of my commitment to professional development, I engage in personal therapy, supervision and (lots of) CPD. I strive to integrate an intersectional framework into all aspects of my practice, working to create spaces that are inclusive, compassionate, and attuned to the complexities of identity and lived experience. My approach emphasizes reflection, relational connection, and deep respect for diversity in all its forms.
In a former life, I taught English Literature. I love dogs, poetry, painting, live music, and being outdoors.
